the email i wrote to my professor

Subject: question about proficiency test

hi, professor Murphy.

i'm a student from your class ,i have some quick problems for your suggestions.
i feel the math 220 class is sort of easy for me , because i have studied all those basic theories and knew how to use them. so i 'm thinking about attending the proficiency test which is on oct.9th. if i could pass it , do you think i should continue to stay in your class or move to the upper level?
  Thanks for your time!

i've got some good suggestions , he told me to decide it by my own feeling, if i feel i could totally cope with math220 , it's ok to take higher level class.

  1. That's a good conversation. And I think it's even better if you break the second paragraph into two, one is about your current situation, the other is the question you'd like to ask. Also, I like your straight forward style.

  2. You raise a nice question. Math 220 teaches many basic knowledge and theories which we may learned in high school. We should hold our college time to learn more meaningful and brand new things. In my opinion, attending math 220 proficiency test is a wise choice for you if you really feel easy about that. I am sure your professor will support your decision.
Here is a suggestion: it is better for you to standardize your email format which shows respect.

  3. Hi Yang,

The topic of this email is practical. Many of my surrounding friends who attends math 220 now are planning to take the proficiency level because they are far beyond the level of this course. Therefore, it is a good decision to take the proficiency exam rather than continue studying it for a whole semester. And it's nice to share your idea with your professor to let him know and give your suggestion.

Good luck and have a nice weekend!
